As I walk to lunch on the Bellarmine campus, each person that I pass is white. It takes me reaching the steps and the smells of Kosters until I see someone of a different color or nationality. A question raises in my mind. Why is only a small percent of the Bellarmine population made up of minorities? This experience extends into my classes as well. In some classrooms, everyone – including my teachers – is white. Bellarmine strives for diversity and social justice, but it is difficult to find evidence of its existence on campus. There are only a hand full of classes, clubs, and organizations offered for social justice and multiculturalism. Bellarmine University does a good job of offering chances for international studies and learning about the international community, but there is more to multiculturalism
Forming of the BSU
There are 70 plus organizations and clubs on Bellarmine’s campus. Some are for majors, honors, and special interest, but the BSU (Black Student Union) is about bringing together the African Americans on this campus for social change. The Black Student Union is an RSO that allows students to engage in open conversation about racial and social issues faced today on and off our campus. Like many RSO’s the BSU was not formed over night. The organization started last year with a group of students who wanted to form a group for African Americans in the Bellarmine community. Krystle Maycock, the treasurer of the newly form BSU, shared how the organization came to be an RSO.
“It was initiated by many students way before I came to Bellarmine by campus groups last year. It was a bunch of students that came together and that had never happened before. Alecia Prince was the one who organized everyone with the adviser Claudette Berry,” said Maycock.
Many of the original organizers feared the difficulty they would face trying to get the group registered as an RSO, including producing a constitution and the bylaws that all RSO have to have.
“We knew it was going to be a struggle to be an RSO on campus. We know also there wasn’t a BSU on campus before. I think they were lenient on becoming an RSO because there wasn’t anything for us (African Americans) to do,” said Maycock.
Alecia Prince, the president of the Black Student Union states, “We wanted something that provided unity.” Prince worked with other students to form the constitution and goals of the organization. She wanted something for mainly black students on campus to know that they are a part of Bellarmine and not to fall behind the “whiteness” of the campus culture.
Exploring and interviewing those in the BSU, it is evident how passionate they are about being apart of the organization and want to see it become a force on campus. Some of their goals are stated in their constitution, such as to form unification within the African American community and to improve the quality of life for black students on campus.
Maycock added, “We don’t want it to be only for the black students. We want it to be for all students and they should feel free to come and join our meeting and be a part of what we are doing.”
“Our goal is to bring together the black community, also the university as a whole. Just not to put the blacks in one particular area, we want the whole university to come together and attend our events and show respect,” said Maycock.
Events for the BSU
For a new RSO on campus the Black Student Union has had several events such as meetings, a Black History Month dinner, bowling, and other events in February.
Melissa Hyles, secretary of BSU said that the first BSU meeting, “was a true experience for me because we were able to get passed all of the barriers and come together as one. The amount of members showed that there was a need for a group like this on campus. It was a great event that showed unity.”
“Throughout the month of February we had a few events, we had a dinner on Feb. 28 that was held in Frasier. It was taking the place of Koster’s that day and we had entertainment such poetry, dance, and singing”
The dinner was their most attended event and let Bellarmine know they are an organization willing to make a difference for social change on campus. In the future, the BSU plans to have speakers and conferences on campus. The BSU is becoming on force on Bellarmine campus.

Many young people of Color will be going off to college within a couple of days. Before you embark upon your noble endeavor, I need to leave you with a few words of caution; DO NOT ALLOW PREDATORY LENDERS TO RUIN YOUR LIVES.
Basically, predatory lenders are a bunch of wise, pale-faced peckerwoods who've designed a master plan to keep Black, Brown, and Red youth impoverished, even if you do attend college.
The raises in the cost of attending colleges are skyrocketing. This is not "accidental", or "market driven", as the white boys on the "Blonde Fox" News Network would have you believe. If the costs of attending college keep rising, and your financial status stays the same, then your vulnerability to become prey of the blue-eyed buzzards in positions of power increases.
Now, why target Black, Brown, and Red youth? Because, what the hell do we know about money, when we've never had any? You're not only vulnerable because of the aforementioned reasons, but once you're offered loans that "seem" to be legitamate, the criminal aspects of the terms and conditions of the loan won't be apparent.
They first make it where you MUST look to alternative, non-governmental sources of student aid, because the governmental aid, subsidized and unsubsidized, almost NEVER meets the full costs of books, tuition, room and board, living expenses, insurance, etc. Is that a lie?
Now, since you have no alternatives, the devils come swarming down upon you like hungry locusts on a wheat field, ALL BY DESIGN.
First, the loan includes a fee that the crackers tell you is determined by some "Libor Index." This, simply put, is a way of screwing you in a small way, to prepare you for the MASTER screwing you're going to get, soon.
Secondly, and this is EXTREMELY important. Unlike the FAFSA loans, the Annual Percentage Rate is not fixed. This means that, while you're in college (and hopefully, you've chosen to DEFER (put off payment) on your loan), a very low interest rate that NEVER CHANGES is applied to your balance.
Now, let's talk about the loan sharks that are destroying the lives of my people. Instead of FIXED INTEREST RATES, you are offered a loan that has A VARIABLE INTEREST RATE THAT IS ADJUSTED QUARTERLY. Don't you just love this sham, cracker talk, where they use big words with the hope of confusing you. That's what devils are best at; deceit.
LISTEN UP NOW! THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO GET SLEEPY. A variable interest rate is already artificially high. Additionally, IT IS NOT FIXED, AND IT CHANGES FOUR TIMES A YEAR. Don't get caught up in the barrage of small-talk, designed to make you miss the tricks I'm telling you about. An interest rate that is not fixed changes.
So, you may start out with an interest rate which is from six to nine percent (TERRIBLE, and should be CRIMINAL), but when it's time, during one of the four quarters in the year to "adjust" the rate, it can be adjusted within what they call a "spread". Spreads are simply a range in which your interest rate may increase.
If the crackers tell you that the "spread" around your starting rate is TWELVE POINTS, GUESS WHAT? Within a month of nine-percent interest accruing on your loan, nine + twelve equals what? TWENTY TWO PERCENT, just for that quarter.
Wait, things get MUCH worse. If you don't know by now that your dealing with Satan, you'll never know. Since this is done four times a year.........well, think about things in this way. You start off with a balance, with a nine percent interest rate that lasts for three months. Quite naturally, your balance will be a little higher at the end of three months. Now, it's time for the crackers to start over. With this LARGER balance, with a TWENTY TWO percent interest rate, you accrue a HUGE amount of interest. After the remaining two times that the "quarterly rate" is applied, you may have a balance at the end of the year that is TWICE THE AMOUNT OF YOUR ORIGINAL LOAN!
DEVIL! DEVIL! DEVIL!
Now, when you finally graduate, it's time to breath a sigh of relief, isn't it? Hell no! Don't you know that, if you pay LARGER payments on your loan, in an effort to get it out of the way, this goes AGAINST your credit. That's a long subject, so let me get to the other stuff.
Additionally, the pale-faced pilgrims, Bill O'Reilly's good Christian white Americans, have things set up so that you'll NEVER make large enough payments if you pay by the rules they establish, because they add hidden fees to your monthly payments, legally. Because of this, you're destined, eventually, to make a payment that is too small.
BAM!
Guess what happens next? They report this to credit agencies. They allow you to go five, six, seven months, maybe a year, to point out that your payments have been "too small."
With you're credit ruined, you're between a rock and a hard place. Nobody will want to help you out of this mess, EXCEPT ONE PARTICULAR AGENCY, THAT COMES OUT OF THE BLUE. THEY OFFER TO HELP YOU RESTORE YOUR CREDIT WITH REASONABLE PAYMENTS.
GUESS WHO OWNS THIS "DO GOODER" COMPANY? THE SAME FOLKS THAT GAVE YOU THE LOAN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Shouldn't this be against the Law? Of course. However, anyone who knows anything about politics knows that politicians are nothing but a bunch of cheap tricks, whores of the lowest order of morality. They'd sell their grandmothers into prostitution for the right price.
See, it's legal to bribe politicians, and loan companies, along with other big money businesses, and wicked individuals, do so on a regular basis. The bribers are called "lobbyists."
Anyway, working over the summers seems to be your only outlets for now. Since the so-called "Liberal Media" isn't coming to your aid, take as small a loan as you have to in order to make up the amount not covered by FAFSA loans. Then, for the sake of God, leave these loan sharks alone.
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it just changes forms. This includes wickedness of the cultural histories of these blue-eyed devils. This is just another form of slavery, and you shouldn't be surprised.
